I have been contemplating it for a while. I don't know if I'm just going to keep this blog and have a second blog be my real blog or just make this one private. My friend Marie Guthrie has an open blog and a private blog. With the open one, she makes notes on it to let everyone know that there is a new post on the private blog. I really like this idea. There has been a lot of things I just haven't talked about or posted because I didn't want it to be "out there" for everyone (like the fact that we bought a house almost 2 years ago. Did you know that? No? Probably because I didn't want to post about it and put pictures of my house for random strangers to see. So... My goal is to go private by the end of June. That gives everyone time to post their emails to here or if you already know my email address send me an email with yours in it. I am not going to post my email address on here (your email would probably get sent to my junk mailbox anyway). You can also send me a message on my facebook page, if you'd like. Once I get each email that is posted on here I will delete them off the comments because if you are like me, you don't want your email out there for everyone to see.

One of my favorite things EVER!

Maybe it's because I was a pool rat growing up, maybe it's because I was a lifeguard for 3 years, or maybe it's just because I grew up in the HOT weather of Arizona. Whatever the reason is, one of my favorite things EVER is OTTER POPS! (See image below)

These are seriously the best things ever! AND no one I have met (at least at my job) has heard of them! Jason and I have looked EVERYWHERE in Fargo for 4 years for Otter Pops and the only thing that we've ever found that are similar are Fla-Vor-Ice and some other knock-off. They are definitely not as good. But it seems that someone has finally heard my complaints about the issue. I found them! You have no idea how excited I was when I found them! And at my job no less! Of course my co-workers thought I was crazy for putting 5 boxes on hold to buy later and then laughed at me when I ended up buying EIGHT boxes instead. (When I told Jason that we had them he, too, was so stoked!) They just don't understand. I recommend that anyone who has never had an Otter Pop to go to their local Target and check the "Dollar Spot/See Spot Save" right when you walk in the doors and buy some! I know I'm going to be stocking up and buying A LOT more. My summer just got a whole lot better!! Thank you, Target!

(Oh, and by the way, one of my other favorite popsicle are BULLET POPS and again I haven't ever found them outside of good ol' AZ.)

Sometimes....

I think I would rather live my life in my own little bubble of the world...

WARNING: This post may be too political for some people. Thank you for listening.

TEN YEARS AGO THIS MONTH

I was lucky enough to go on a trip through my high school to Washington, D.C. and learn more "Close Up" about our government and learn more about how and the way it works. (I would like to thank my parents and grandparents for helping me raise the money to go and anyone else that may have helped to contribute.) When I went, there were a few kids from different states that were in the group I was with from North Dakota, Alaska, and Hawaii.

There were several things that we were able to do while in D.C.
*We were able to see the monuments, of course
*Go into the Capital Building (if you ever go to D.C. you should go. They have statues of 2 people from every state of the union in there and one of the statues is of Philo T. Farnsworth, one of my ancestors, who invented the television!)
*Go into the Senate Chamber (the visitors part but still I was in there and able to look around. In fact it was on the day that John McCain was debating about the McCain/Feingold Bill which is now known as the Campaign reform bill of 2002)
*Go into the Supreme Court Building during a trial (are they called trials in there?)
*And, overall, see the sights of D.C.

Besides seeing the sights we also went and sat through different lectures. They were all about things doing with the government but mostly (to me) it was a bunch of lobbyists telling us how they try to lobby our political figures to vote certain ways or try to change laws. One example was sitting through about 2 hours of an environmental lobbyist and how his company has been working on changing things with the EPA. I can't remember exactly but I do remember them showing us a movie about the environment that was not the most interesting movie to show a bunch of teenagers. To me, it felt like they were trying to lobby us teenagers in the way "An Inconvenient Truth" tries to scare us about global warming years later. This could have been because my father was a biology teacher and had taught me a lot about the environment growing up and so I had already made up my own mind what we as a society should do to help protect the environment (I'm not going to go into that here; it would be much too long.)

One of my most memorable parts of this trip was not going to see all the landmarks and museums, although I hold all the memories very dear, but one of the lectures that we had to go and listen to was of this guy who said that he was a media lobbyist. He went through a nice little speech about how the media is uninfluenced by the government and how, in fact, the media actually influences the government and helps to get the government to change by the way the media spins stories. The whole time I was sitting there I was just shaking my head. I just couldn't believe that here in front of me and this whole group of teenagers, this guy was trying to tell us that the media was so unflawed so, in a way, untouchable that they were free to report how they wanted to without repercussion from others. After he was finished talking, we were allowed to ask him questions. Since he bugged me so badly about how he kept saying how the media can report how and what they want, I rose my hand.

Here I am, an 18 year old girl, who isn’t really supposed to buck the system and I stand up and ask him a question. I stood and and asked “How can you say that the media is not influenced by the government? There are countless examples in history about the government covering up major stories that they didn’t want the American public to know.” And to drive my point home, I gave him an example: “If you say that the media can report how they want then can you explain why the media never reported about the Holocaust in WWII until well into the war and after the US entered into the war? The government knew the atrocities going on in Europe and our government turned away from it. It wasn’t until after we got into the war that we were told as if to keep the public in the dark and ignorant. And then after the entrance of the US into the war, the government had all sorts of propaganda films made to be released to get public support of the US in the war.” I got a huge round of applause from the room and the guy took no more questions after that and never did answer my questions.

I don't know why I really ever felt like I needed to stand up and speak out. I guess I had just gotten fed up with all of these lectures telling us teenagers how we should think and that this was the way the government was supposed to work. I felt like what was supposed to be a week of learning the ins and outs of the government ended up being an awaking to me of some messed up sides of the government. I won't say it was a bad experience. I'm grateful for it. I think, if anything, it helped me to understand more "real world" things than just graduating into the world and trying to learn them after graduating. Our world and our government are not perfect, but I do think that we all need to be more aware about what is going on in it. We shouldn't just take what is written or said as truth in the media. We, as humans, need to question things, ask ourselves and find out for ourselves what is true, right and question things when you know it doesn't sound or look right.

For the final dinner that we had at the end of the week I was chosen from my group (we were split into smaller groups at the beginning) to get up and represent our group and our opinion of the week and how we all felt it was for us all. I don't remember what I said in that little speech but I remember it was more poignant and thought-provoking than others that had stood up to speak for their groups and that it made everyone cheer. That made me pretty happy.

By the way, this flashback is brought to you by the film "The Tillman Story" which I watched tonight with Jason. It is a good movie. It also shows how the government covered it all up and lied not only to the family but to the world through the media and then went on to try and use the media to pen Pat Tillman as a hero who died in battle to try and put a positive spin/face of a war that had very low public support for to try and gain more support for it.

I'm sorry. I'm done. Are you feeling okay?

I'm feeling fine but Jason's not.
Story:
I was at work today and it was going just like a regular day at work when I get a phone call. When I say I got a phone call, I mean the operator went over the walkie talkie and said "Lauren you have a phone call on 33."
Thinking it was just a coworker that was off or guest that got my name, I answer the phone "This is Lauren, Can I help you find something?" To my surprise, it's Jason. He never calls me at work. He would just texted me if he needed to tell me something. So he says to me "Hi Lauren. It's Jason. Are you able to get out of work for a little bit?" I ask "Why?" obviously. (I don't exactly have a job where I can just say "Hey I need to leave for a littlte bit.") He says "I've been in an accident and I need you to take me to get my shoulder checked out." (and since it was while he was on his job, they require a drug test, too.) So I put him on hold and call my boss and ask her quickly. She says that it is ok and I get back on to let him know I'm leaving in about 5 minutes.

So I leave and go to where Jason is at. (side note: Jason is a Frito Lay vendor. He goes to 4 different stores here in town and delivers and stocks Frito Lay chips. He drives one of the bigger Frito delivery trucks and that is what he was driving at the time of the accident.) Some lady had ran a red light and slammed right into him on the passenger side right up by the tire, bending the fender at a complete 90 degree angle, bending the wheel well and after hitting the truck so hard, her car's backside spun around and hit the side of his truck. He didn't even see the car coming. Luckily, he had 2 eyewitnesses that vouched for him that he had the green light and she clearly ran the red light without even slowing down (she was probably going 30 or so). Also luckily, he was wearing his seat belt.

To the point where he got hurt: He messed up his right shoulder in the accident. He had his hands on the wheel (obviously) and with the impact his arm tensed and his shoulder took the impact of it. I knew exactly what he meant since I have had a similar shoulder injury. They took x-rays and didn't see anything wrong, so that's good, also. Now, per doctor's orders, he can't lift, push or pull over 10 lbs or reach higher than his shoulders. That's basically his whole job! He has to go to physical therapy for a week, at least. Hopefully, just taking it easy, his shoulder will start to feel better.

Sorry that this was such a long post. I just wanted to document it more for myself.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://jason-and-lauren.blogspot.com/2011/03/wait-2-posts-in-one-day-are-you-feeling.html' title='Wait? 2 posts in one day? What!?

So I have attempted to post to my blog in the past and I was looking through to edit some of my posts and came across this. I never finished writing the whole post but I still think it's funny and needed to be published. Enjoy!

November 16, 2009
So I told Jason that I was going to post a blog about what we did yesterday. We both had the day off so of course we cleaned but more than anything we made each other laugh. Jason and I had a dance party to Christmas music on the music station on cable. Then we pushed Jason down the stairs in a box trying to slide down like in a sled.

I know. A year and a half later? I was writing this 2009 post 3 weeks after moving into our house. I had actually forgotten about this and when I read it, it made me smile to remember. I guess that's all I need to do. Just post what makes ME smile. I don't need to do it for anyone else (although I don't mind others reading it). I need to post so that I remember!

That's all.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://jason-and-lauren.blogspot.com/2011/03/new-post-what.html' title='A new post? So, Dallin, although I live forever away, think of this post as a huge hug from me. Maybe Stacey can help me out with that in person. I love you, Dallin! I'm glad that you are my older brother. You are a great friend and a great father. I love your sense of humor and your infectious laughter. I love your passion for life and love to listen to you talk. It's great to hear the passion in your voice when you talk about something you really care about. You are a wonderful brother! I love you! Just remember I'm always a phone call away! I hope you had a wonderful birthday.

My Niece, Jersey Jean....

is 7 today! I love you Dallin. I wish I was there to give you a big hug. I miss you. I wish that we talked more. I know I live far away but that doesn't mean I don't care about you and your cute family. I hope you know how much you mean to me. I feel like we have always been a bit closer even though we don't talk as much; like we think and feel the same. I know I may not have always been the best sister to you and just so you know it was all because of me. I'm sorry. I love you so much, Dallin! I know I have distanced myself from you and the family in the past and it hurts me now to think it may have hurt our relationship, but I am still your sister and you can still call and talk to me anytime for advice or a listening ear. (Sorry that my post will show up as posted on Oct. 8th and your birthday was yesterday the 7th. It took me a while to type because I had to stop crying. I guess I'm just missing all my family. ) WOW! I really know how to write a depressing blog! I love you Dallin. Don't ever forget that. You are a wonderful brother and I wouldn't trade you for anyone else. I'm so sad that she is only 9 hours away but it still feels like longer because I don't get to see her enough. I love you so much Mom! I'm going to miss you and Dad when you are gone to the Marshall Islands. You are such a great person and friend. I'm so happy that you are my mother. You always try to be there for me as much as you can. I know I'm not the best at letting you or anyone in but you try still and I appreciate it. I'll try to do better. I used to watch Sesame Street even though I was out of elementary school, like in Junior High. It wasn't everyday but it seemed like when I did watch I got to watch a cool act like this on there. I haven't watched Sesame Street in years now but I wonder if it's as cool as it was in the 90's. To have the Spin Doctors on Sesame Street was pretty funny for me because no little kid would know who they are but I did because I was in Junior High and listened to them. Anyway, I found the clip on Youtube so watch!

Another cool one for me was Ladysmith Black Mambazo on the show. My family and I went to see them in concert because my dad liked them and Paul Simon and Ladysmith Black Mambazo had done some songs together and my Dad so likes Paul Simon. So here you go; Another video you can watch with your kids.

Memories...

I remember renting the Muppets Show from the library one summer and there were 2 songs that they did on the show. (sorry to waste your money, Mom!) And the reason I hardly wore either one is I can still see without the help of them. I only have one bad eye and back in the day my right eye was 20/20 so it was actually seeing for both eyes. Well, I finally broke down and went to the eye doctor the last day of my vacation since again I work during the week and don't feel like going after work to the doctor's and I hate doctors. But since I am paying to have insurance I figure I should use it.

Jason came with me and the eye doctor did the whole eye exam. She said everything was good except that my right eye is a plus and the left a negative which means that the right is over-compensating for the left and isn't 20/20 anymore. It's such a slight prescription though that she said if I didn't want it that it would be ok. She also said that my left eye is so bad that it wouldn't pass a driving test eye exam (which last year when we moved up here and got our licenses I almost didn't but did because of my right eye). She gave me a trial contact for the left eye and I ordered some glasses, and then a few days later I got the trial for the right. I just got my glasses today. Jason says I look like Tina Fey with them on. I don't see it.

Vacation!!!!

Well, Jason had his last vacation of the year Sept. 27-Oct. 6 so since I still had some vacation time and wasn't going to take it on my own I took the 1st thru the 6th off work. Our original plan was to go to Chicago and see my parents but that didn't work out. (Sorry Mom and Dad! I hope I still get to see you at Thanksgiving.) So instead I used my time to do things I haven't had time to do since getting married and working Monday-Friday. I got my new SS card with my name change on it like 3 months ago but haven't changed my name on ANYTHING else. So I was able to get my new driver's license, change my name at work, and change all my credit cards over to my married name, FINALLY. Jason was amazed how much work it was to have to change my name on everything. It really wasn't so hard, it was just finding the time since I work during the week and that's when everything is opened. So Yea! It was kind of depressing though at the same time. My mom told me that I'm still a Patterson even though I changed my name :(

Anyway, since we weren't going to Chicago I wanted to still get out of Fargo. We decided to drive down to Minneapolis and go shopping at the Mall of America. I wanted to go to a REAL mall. Not the little wanna-be mall that Fargo has. (It's sad really. The mall here is a nice mall there's just nothing I would really buy in the stores. We walk through the mall and say "Do you want to go in there?" "No" "Do you want to go in here?" "No") My goal for going to the Mall of America was to find a white hoodie. I have this thing with matching in my outfits and I just didn't have a white jacket to match. And Jason said if I found one he would buy it for my birthday. And yes the trip was a success. I found a hoodie and a new shirt. It was fun to go to the Mall and see things that we would actually buy if we had the money to buy it. And we were able to eat at Chipotle and get Cinnabon! (Neither of which we have in Fargo.) We spent a good deal of time checking out Ikea and seeing some awesome furniture that we are going to save up for, also!

We stopped at a rest stop and I wanted to take a picture of the fall leaves. That's one thing I do like to see is the leaves here change since I never had that in Arizona. I could do without the cold that comes with it but oh well.

I don't know if any of you have seen this SMART Car but I'm in love with it. After unloading her cart full of groceries and the cashier ringing it all thru she says "oh I forgot my billfold!"

Jason said she then gave her keys to the car to her probably 8-year-old son to go out and get it for her. After about 2-3 minutes he comes back in and says he can't find it. She decides to then have her son watch the other kids while SHE goes out to the car to look for it for about 2-3 minutes! Jason said she then comes back in and states that she couldn't find it either and says "oh it's ok" and proceeds to pull out her checkbook that was in her purse the whole time while she is in the store and flips it to the back where she takes out a $100 bill! She says "fine just use this." (Jason said she had a number of other bills in the checkbook, too)

So the moral of the story: Please don't waste unnecessary time if you had the money the whole time. Thank you.

Saggy Pants, what?

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_9xPXFV7kOAw/SNgv4KAFwaI/AAAAAAAAAMM/ZvM4AKTxLhU/s200/11_210x331.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5248998007504224674" />
So I remembered another random conversation that some co-workers and I had. I don't really know how it went so I'll just tell you the gist of it.

One of the guys at work said one day, "So what the heck is up with guys wearing their pants all saggying below their butts? Is that the new style or something? It's stupid!"

Me: (if I had been drinking something at the time I seriously would have been spitting it out in surprise) "What do you mean the "new style"? That's been going on for frickin' years! Where have you been?"

He, of course, didn't believe me and insisted on it being a new thing that they do now. I had to then explain that that guys have been wearing pants like that since at least the late '80's and explain obviously not all guys wear their pants like but the style is NO WHERE near being "THE NEW STYLE!"

I'm telling you, some people seriously live under rocks here!

Do you have...?

(If you haven't read the post 2 down to explain this post please read it first so you understand why I'm posting this)

It's late and I'm remembering all these ridiculious converstaions and I just remembered another one. Some of the conversations that I have are kind of like "Here's Your Sign" moments that make you wonder if people thought that after they said whatever they said I hope they realized how dumb it was. Case in point...

I answered a phone call for the shoe department that went like this:

Me: Hello this is shoes. can I help you find something?

Lady on the Phone: Yeah I was wondering if you carried any dancing type shoes either tap, jazz, or ballet.

Me: No I'm sorry, we do not. The only thing that we carry are little ballet slippers for girls.

LOTP: What kind of ballet slippers are they and what size do they come?

Me: They are just cheap little slippers for little girls in dance, not the kind you can go up on point with.

LOTP: Oh ok. Well I was looking for jazz shoes anyway. You don't carry those?

Me: (thinking in my head Ok then why didn't you just specify that that's what you were looking for exactly in the first place?)

Me: No I'm sorry we do not.

LOTP: Do you know of any dance stores in Fargo that I can get those?

Me: No I don't. I'm not familiar with Fargo and their dance stores.

LOTP: (I don't know why she is still on the phone) You don't? Man I have looked everywhere. Ok thank you.

Me: You're welcome. Bye.
Hang up

So friendly reminder to all of you out there. When calling or shopping a place of business and you need something specific please ask for that instead of asking for a general roundabout thing and then actually needing a specific.

I used to get those same similar questions at Zumiez and Pacsun all the time when I worked there. People would come in looking for shoes and ask me "What sizes do you have this shoe in?" or "What sizes does this shoe come in?" INSTEAD of saying "Do you have this shoe in a size ...?" My response was the same everytime: "What size do you need or wear?"

Ok enough for tonight. GOOD NIGHT ALL!

Mine, Mine, Mine! not Mike Mike Mike!

I already thought of another conversation that I had with B. To set it up a little bit, she doesn't watch very many movies. Even old movies. She can't sit still enough to watch them, she says, because she feels she has too much other things she needs to do. (By the way she only has 1 child and he is 22 or 23 and does not live at home so it's just her and her husband.)

Anyway, a couple of other co-workers and I are always quoting movies and one we sometimes quote is Finding Nemo. A one of my friends/co-workers even has as her text message tone it says "Shark Bate Oooh-ha-ha" and then there's a guy at work named Bruce and some other girls are always saying to him "Fish are friends, not food."

Since B had never seen Finding Nemo I decided to bring it in on a Friday so she would have the weekend to watch it. Monday morning comes and she gives it back to me and says she really liked it. Here's where the conversation comes in.

The next day she comes in and tells me the previous day she was talking to K and she said "Mike Mike Mike!" and K looks at her with a funny look on her face and said "What are you talking about?"

B says "You know. From Finding Nemo! The part with the seagulls!"

K realizing what B was talking about corrects her and says "B they aren't saying Mike Mike Mike! they are saying Mine Mine Mine!"

B says "Oh my gosh that makes so much more sense!" (I of course am laughing at her)

B then says she went home that night and told her husband "You that part in the movie with the seagulls, do you know what they were saying?" He says "Yeah they were saying Mine Mine Mine!"

B says "I can't believe you knew that! I thought that they were saying Mike Mike Mike!" She said that her husband just rolled his eyes and couldn't believe she thought that.

Ok. This one was funny to me. It may not be to you but whatever.

To Be Continued...

You don't need a passport...

For those of you that come to my blog everyday or week hoping I updated it I have decided that since I never really have anything worth mentioning in our lives, I am going to start posting the insane and ridiculous things people say & conversations that I have with my co-workers here at Target in Fargo, North Dakota. I'm specifying the fact that I'm in Fargo so everyone that does not live here can try to relate to the me and feel my pain when I post these conversations. (And if any of you feel dumb after I post some conversations, I'm sorry. I'm not making fun of anyone. It's just sometimes I think my co-workers grew up under a rock for the lack of common knowledge and sense that they have sometimes.) So here it goes. The first dumb conversation:

A couple days ago one of my co-workers (we'll just call her D to keep her anonymous and to help follow along in future posts) D makes a comment saying "I saw a commercial the other day saying that you do not need a passport to travel to Puerto Rico from the U.S.! That's so crazy. I wonder why. That's really cool." (I hope some of you are already have the same reaction to this as I did.)

So I say to her "Of course you don't. You've never had to because Puerto Rico is a territory of the U.S. as is Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands." (I know there are a few more places I just only mentioned Guam and the Virgin Islands.)

D says " I never knew that. That's good to know." (Myself and another co-worker we'll call M just couldn't believe that she had no idea.)

So then another co-worker we'll call B says " I wouldn't travel there. I would rather go to Cuba!"

M and I look a each other and then look at her and proceed to tell her that she can't travel to Cuba.

B says "Yes I can. I can go where ever I want."

M says "no you have to get special permission from the US Govt."

B says "Since when?" (Please somebody have the same reaction to this as me!)

M says "Since for a long time! Bay of Pigs blah blah Cold War, Cuban Missile crisis, etc." (I'm obviously summarizing just a tad.)

B says "Oh really? I didn't know that."

I said "Yeah go ahead and go to Cuba just good luck trying to get back in and explaining why you were there."

B says "Well I don't care I would go to Cuba if I want." (I guess you first have to understand how B really is and the fact that she is saying she would go to Cuba is just crazy talk because this chick hasn't ever been to the ocean or taken a flight anywhere and is afraid of water because she can't swim. I'm sure if I would have told her that she would have to take a boat or plane to get to Cuba, I know the next thing out of her mouth would be "Well never mind then." I'm sure she probably thought you can drive to Cuba because that's the only way she will travel. I'm pretty sure the farthest she's been from North Dakota is Iowa. And we won't go back because ti was TERRIBLE food!) and then went bowling. It was fun! I'm not good at bowling and we only played 2 games because our fingers hurt, but we had a great time. There's not much to do in Fargo so we try to think of stuff to do. Here are a few pictures. I did hit a couple of strikes but I picked up more spares than anything that Jason started calling me "the spare queen."
(Donating a dollar for a cause and creating a pepper)

Haircut!

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_9xPXFV7kOAw/SLoUj8mfoLI/AAAAAAAAAKg/mh_R_nzdDlg/s320/IMG_3068.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5240523724194554034" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_9xPXFV7kOAw/SLoT2C5TSUI/AAAAAAAAAKY/fDZQMRWMvGg/s320/IMG_3062.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5240522935610067266" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_9xPXFV7kOAw/SLoTpn4oROI/AAAAAAAAAKQ/vXmrBWysqtw/s320/IMG_3778.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5240522722201060578" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_9xPXFV7kOAw/SLoTgJrhHUI/AAAAAAAAAKI/i_jyevQqtI8/s320/IMG_3779.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5240522559474179394" />
That's right. For those that don't know, I work at Target. And as for "Round Robin" interviews I have to go through 4 different interviews. A lot of the questions that are asked are the same questions worded 4 different ways. I don't know which position I'm really interviewing for because the 2 that are open I have experience in each. The one is in the clothes which would be the baby department and the mens' department, which I have experience in because I was the team lead of baby and the girls' department down in Texas before moving to North Dakota and in Flagstaff, AZ before I quit Target to work for Pacsun. The other one is for price change, which is what I do now (I help do all the clearance in the store.) Anyway, I'm pretty stressed out about it. I don't like interviewing. I just wanted to say how nice it is to have girls night out every once in a while. It was very fun. I'm glad I went. I don't remember the last time that I went out to dinner and a movie with the girls. It was really nice because Jason got home early so we can go to the downtown street fair before I went out. Oh, and P.S. there is home that we drove past after leaving the street fair that already had a Christmas nativity scene in their front yard. Honestly! 6 months early! And then I found out from one of my friends that they actually just leave it up year round. I guess if you just wait until the snow melts or it warms up here to take your Christmas decorations, you might as well just leave them up because Christmas will come around again. Wow! She is one of my oldest friends, as in I've known her for a long time. When we were little we were in the same dance class at Campbell's dance studio. And even though we grew up going to different elementary schools we had the some of the same classes in 7th grade and when we realized that we were in the same dance class when we were younger we became fast friends. She is a great person and great friend. I remember going to diving in high school and her on the swim team and when I got cut my senior year from diving she convinced me to try out the swim team. She is an awesome swimmer but I just couldn't keep up with everyone on the team. I'm so glad that we haven't lost touch completely over the years and are now in touch more. Thank you for coming to my bridal shower in April. You are such a great friend. I hope you had a wonderful birthday! Happy Birthday! (Julie I know you hate this picture because you think you look like an Amazon woman and you don't. Sorry! You are taller than me. It's so crazy! I was so bummed when she got engaged in 2001 because she told me that we were going to go to the Mall of America after I graduated but then she got engaged. It was ok though. Mike and Rhiannon took me to Disneyland instead. Mike was and is an awesome guy and I am so happy to have another brother. He's cool to hang out with. I know I gave him a hard time in the beginning, but I hope he knows that it was all in love. I can't imagine life without Rhiannon and Mike and their adorable little family. You are such a great example to me. I love that you are always there for me. I love you guys! Congratulations! 7 years! Happy Anniversary! (I don't have any pictures of just Rhiannon and Mike or a more up-to-date family picture so this is the one you get!)

Scattegories

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_9xPXFV7kOAw/SHgdYSfkdgI/AAAAAAAAAI4/xSy_ZQVcIGI/s200/733px-ScattergoriesBox.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5221956071054407170" />
So Rhiannon posted this like a month ago and I wanted to post it, also. Red symbolizes passion, romance, and love. So, since you're ruled by red, you probably trust your feelings more than your brain and tend to act spontaneously. If you see something you want, you go for it without thinking twice — impulsive is your middle name. You don't wait around for people to make decisions, either; you dive right in. Quite the romantic, you pay close attention to your emotions. In fact, if your heart isn't in what you're doing, you won't be satisfied. Of course, even when you do pour all your energy into the projects you tackle, your impetuous nature means your passions can shift as frequently as the wind. That's why some reds have trouble with commitment. Our advice? Next time you're feeling fickle, think before you act, if possible. You might be surprised at the results. Overall, though, it's great to be red. No one lives life more completely than you do.

What are you?
http://web.tickle.com/jumpto?test=colorogt&c=50652

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://jason-and-lauren.blogspot.com/2008/03/oki-took-it-again-and-got-red-i-think.html' title='Ok...I took it again and got Red. The color of night. Serene and mysterious, black conjures up images of elegant evening gowns, dashing tuxedos, and gleaming limousines. Traditionally a symbol of success, black also represents power and an uncompromising demand for perfection. Not surprisingly, you tend to set challenging goals for yourself and do whatever it takes to achieve them — your strength of character is second to none. This unfaltering determination, along with your natural elegance, impresses people. But keep in mind that your personality might be intimidating to some. Try to temper your demanding side with a little softness — trust us, it won't kill you. Overall, though, black is the color of professionalism and achievement, which means it's clearly the color for you.

What are you?
http://web.tickle.com/jumpto?test=colorogt&c=50652

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://jason-and-lauren.blogspot.com/2008/03/my-true-color-is-absense-of-color-wierd.html' title='My True Color is... Fortunately, this person has made a much greater impact on my life than just a actor. While I was boarding a plane to leave Denver after being stuck in the airport all day, something very sad happened a state away. President Hinckley passed away last night about 7:00 pm in Salt Lake City. This has come as a complete shock to me. I just read about it in an email about a half hour ago. I seriously can't believe it. He was an amazing President and Prophet. I loved listening to him speak. He will be greatly missed by all the church and everyone that he came in contact with throughout the world. The Arizona Republic wrote a nice article about it so I'm going to copy and past it here for everyone to read. I am just so happy that I was able to listen to Conference back in October and listen to a Prophet's voice. Since before I was born President Hinckley had been in the First Presidency of the Church. From the time I was learning how to say my prayers, I have always prayed for the First Presidency, each one individually, always saying "bless President Hinckley." I'm so glad to have grown up listening to him speak and bear testimony of the Gospel and truthfulness of the Church. I remember watching the video that came out of all the testimonies of the Quorum of the Twelve and First Presidency and how amazing his testimony was. What an amazing man to have lived on the earth!

Mormon Church President Gordon B. Hinckley dies at 97
Jennifer Dobner
The Associated Press
Jan. 28, 2008 12:00 AM

SALT LAKE CITY - Gordon B. Hinckley, the Mormon Church's oldest president who presided over one of the greatest periods of expansion in its history, died Sunday. He was 97.

Hinckley, the 15th president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, died of complications arising from old age, church spokesman Mike Otterson said.

"His life was a true testament of service, and he had an abiding love for others," said U.S. Sen. Orrin Hatch, a Utah Republican and fellow Mormon. "His wit, wisdom, and exemplary leadership will be missed by not only members of our faith, but by people of all faiths throughout the world."

Hinckley had been diagnosed with diabetes and was hospitalized in January 2006 for the removal of a cancerous growth in his large intestine.

In April 2006, he told a church conference he was in the "sunset of my life" and "totally in the hands of the Lord." But six months later, Hinckley told followers that doctors had given him a clean bill of health, and he resumed a regular work schedule.

By unfailing tradition, at a church president's death, the church's most senior apostle is ordained within days on a unanimous vote of the Council of the Twelve Apostles. The most long-serving apostle now is Thomas S. Monson, 80.

The church presidency is a lifetime position. Before Hinckley, the oldest church president was David O. McKay who was 96 when he died in 1970.

Hinckley, a grandson of Mormon pioneers, was president for nearly 13 years. He took over as president and prophet on March 12, 1995 and oversaw one of the greatest periods of expansion in church history. The number of temples worldwide more than doubled, from 49 to more than 120 and church membership grew from about 9 million to about 13 million.

About 62 percent of Utah's 2.7 million residents are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Leaders in all levels of government are members, including the governor, lieutenant governor and attorney general.

Mayor Ralph Becker, who is not Mormon, said Hinckley made it a habit to branch out to other religions: "He was such a unifier, someone who was warm and engaging and respecting of everyone who he encountered."

Like his contemporary, Pope John Paul II, Hinckley became by far his church's most traveled leader in history. And the number of Mormons outside the United States surpassed that of American Mormons for the first time since the church, the most successful faith born in the United States, was founded in 1830.

"His leadership in humanitarian efforts around the world was matched only by his efforts in his own beloved state and community as a committed citizen," said Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman, a Mormon. "He has stood as a remarkable example of selflessness, charity and humility and he will be greatly missed by all."

Hinckley's last public appearance was Jan. 4 for the reopening of the Utah Capitol after a nearly four-year renovation.

He began his leadership role in 1995 by holding a rare news conference, citing growth and spreading the Mormon message as the church's main challenge heading into the 21st century.

"We are dedicated ... to teaching the gospel of peace, to the promotion of civility and mutual respect among people everywhere, to bearing witness to the living reality of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the practice of his teachings in our daily lives," Hinckley said.

Over the years, Hinckley labored long to burnish the faith's image as a world religion far removed from its peculiar and polygamous roots. Still, during his tenure the Roman Catholic Church, Southern Baptist Convention and United Methodist Church - the three largest U.S. denominations - each declared that Mormon doctrines depart from mainstream Christianity.

"We are not a weird people," Hinckley told Mike Wallace on "60 Minutes" in 1996.

"The more people come to know us, the better they will understand us," Hinckley said in an interview with The Associated Press in late 2005. "We're a little different. We don't smoke. We don't drink. We do things in a little different way. That's not dishonorable. I believe that's to our credit."

Hinckley's grandfather knew church founder Joseph Smith and followed Brigham Young west to the Great Salt Lake Basin. He often spoke of the Mormon heritage of pioneer sacrifice and its importance as a model for the modern church.

"I think as long as history lasts there will be an interest in the roots of this work, a very deep interest," Hinckley said in a 1994 interview with the AP.

"Because insofar as the people of the church are concerned, without a knowledge of those roots and faith in the validity of those roots, we don't have anything," he said.

In 1997, Hinckley seemed to drive that point home in his orchestration of the lavish sesquicentennial celebration of the Mormons' arrival in the Salt Lake Valley. The yearlong festivities featured a TV-friendly reenactment of the dramatic Mormon exodus from the Midwest by handcart and covered wagon.

Born June 23, 1910, in Salt Lake City, Hinckley graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in arts and planned to attend graduate school in journalism. Instead, a church mission took him to the British Isles.

Upon his return, he became executive director of the newly formed Church Radio, Publicity, and Mission Literature Committee at $60 a month. Hinckley always worked for the church, except for a brief stint during World War II as a railroad agent.

Hinckley was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Pay Hinckley, whom he married in 1937. She died April 6, 2004.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://jason-and-lauren.blogspot.com/2008/01/president-gordon-b-hinckley-1910-2008.html' title='President Gordon B. When we first moved here we didn't have the internet so we had to go the mall to check our email and such. I wasn't going to sit there and post blogs while at the mall so I didn't. Now we've moved into our own place at the beginning of November and we have the internet but I don't have to much time. Working at Target has been crazy busy for the holidays and I've been sleep deprived for the last almost 2 months. But I will post new pictures soon and will try to be better at keeping you informed of all the the news from us.

He's finally back!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_9xPXFV7kOAw/RoWaNPD7q5I/AAAAAAAAAEI/Q9-IPm24lX8/s200/Patterson+Family+6.4.06.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5081637306729474962" />

MY DAD IS FINALLY HOME! It was really nice. Everyone was so sweet. I got a few cards and a gift and even a going away cake. Thank you so much! I will miss most of them. (You know how it is, there's always someone you won't miss.) But the majority of them I will miss. All my gals and the couple of guys that worked in Softlines (clothes) and welcomed me in as a team lead when I first came to Texas and started working at Target. They are all great people. Each one so different from the rest. They are amazing souls and I hope I can keep in touch with them. I'm taking the week off to move and then I will start up at Target in Fargo. It will be a nice break from work even though it won't be much of a break (moving and settling in always takes a lot out of you.) But to my friends at Target I'll miss you!

Forth State in 2 Years!

This Saturday 6/30/2007, Jason and I will be moving out of Texas and going to North Dakota where he is from. For me it will be the 4th state to have lived in in the past 2 years, which is actually more like the last year and a half. Let's see: I lived in Arizona till the middle of April 2006 when I moved to Colorado. Then from there I moved to Texas the beginning of November 2006 and now I'm moving to North Dakota! Moving to 3 states in just over a year takes a lot out of a person, but I'm optimistic. We will be closer to family and I will be closer to my parents, which makes me excited! To all my friends and family, please keep in touch. I will be even further from all of you and will miss you. Wish us luck in the new adventure in our life!

Happy Birthday Mom!

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_9xPXFV7kOAw/RnSvKHGkRbI/AAAAAAAAAD4/sZukXBXAA-g/s200/Mom+and+Dad+by+Chicago+River+6.6.06.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5076875268193535410" />
My Mom's birthday was also on 6.7.2007. Heck Yes!

So last Thursday (6.7.07) I wanted to post this but I didn't get a chance. Sonic was giving away free root beer floats and we totally went to go get one. It was so much fun. Even though it was just the two of us and Sonic is not more than 2 minutes away from our house, it was fun to do something that cost no money at all! We sat there and listened to the music they were playing. Then we put on Shakira and jammed out. I know it sounds lame but it was totally fun! We like playing Shakira. It's just so funny to listen to.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://jason-and-lauren.blogspot.com/2007/06/free-root-beer-floats-heck-yes.html' title='Free Root Beer Floats!
